Agency Report

According to the Nigerian Air Force, on Sunday, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai carried out airstrikes against the known terrorists’ hideouts and enclaves in Born, eliminating 22 terrorists.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, said this in an Abuja statement on Monday.

According to Gabkwet, the airstrikes were prompted by information obtained from the Land Component, which stated that approximately 22 terrorists were spotted near Marte riding two motorcycles and a weapons truck.

He claimed that the NAF planes were sent there right away to blockade the area.

He claimed that after surveying the region, the terrorists were seen travelling northward towards Munguno and roughly 22 kilometres west of Marte.

“After trailing the terrorists for about 70 minutes, the terrorists in the gun truck and two motorcycles stopped underneath a tree, probably to refuel or evade being seen.

“The targets were subsequently engaged with a huge ball of fire engulfing the area observed afterwards, destroying the gun struck and motorcycles with no sign of movement observed afterwards.

“The huge explosion could be indicative that the point where the terrorists hid was likely a logistics base or their vehicle was conveying weapons or explosive ordinances.”

The NAF spokesman stated that the terrorists’ incapacity to hold ground, pose serious threats to military formations, or randomly target vulnerable civilian targets is demonstrated by their failed strategies of moving from one location to another in an attempt to elude detection and the firepower of the land and air components.

He pointed out that the terrorists’ actions had persisted in showing signs of weakness and despair.

According to Gabkwet, Governor Babagana Zulum recently recognised that although economic activity had increased, the state’s security condition had improved by more than 85%.

He claims that this demonstrates the effectiveness of the efforts made by the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security organisations.

He continued by saying that the governor, in his capacity as the state’s chief security officer, had said that the government was succeeding in maintaining security because the state’s security environment had significantly improved. The governor had also expressed gratitude to the service chiefs for their hard work.
