The Rivers State House of Assembly had a new crisis on Monday when its leader, Edison Ehie, was ousted. There are indications that an impeachment process against the state governor, Sim Fubara, is about to begin.

Due to his suspected supervision of Sunday night’s fire at the Assembly Complex, Ehie was expelled by the Assembly.

Hon. Edison Ehie, the House Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, has been relieved of his duties.

The governor received an impeachment notification from Speaker of the Assembly Martin Amaewhule.

Later, in the midst of the action, Fubara rushed the Assembly Complex.

After that, as tear gas was being fired outside the Assembly Complex, the House members left for safety.

Tear gas is blasted outside the Rivers Assembly complex, prompting House members to run for their lives.

As soon as his proposed impeachment was announced, supporters of the governors staged a protest outside the complex.

Although it was unclear whether the fire was related to the political controversy, there had long been allegations of a schism between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
