INEC TO CONTINUE COLLATION OF BAYELSA GUBER ELECTION RESULTS ON MONDAY
The results collation for the Bayelsa State governorship election on November 11, 2023, has been postponed to Monday at noon by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday night.
The results have been compiled from six of the state’s eight local government areas: Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Yenegoa, Sagbama, Nembe, and Ekeremor. Southern Ijaw and Brass are the local government districts that survive.
The process was deferred on Sunday night by Prof. Faruq Kuta, the state returning officer for the Bayelsa election and vice chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
Candidate sponsorship for the Bayelsa election came from sixteen political parties.
Timipre Sylva, a former state governor and minister of state for petroleum resources, is the principal opponent of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor Duoye Diri.
In the survey, Sylva, the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominee, served as governor of Bayelsa twice: first from May 2007 to April 2008 and again from May 2008 to January 2012.
Governorship elections were held on Saturday in the states of Imo and Kogi, much like in Bayelsa.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of the APC has already been proclaimed the winner by INEC in Imo, defeating Samuel Anyanwu of the PDP, Nneji Achonu of the Labour Party (LP), and fifteen other contestants.
Uzodimma polled 540, 308 votes to defeat his closest rivals, PDP’s Anyanwu, who scored 71,503 votes and LP’s Achonu who got 64,081.
