UPDATE: CONFUSION AS PARTY AGENTS CLASH AT COLLATION CENTRE IN BAYELSA

Read Time:1 Minute, 21 Second

As two party agents got into a fight over results that were collated from the Brass Local Government Area (LGA), chaos broke out at the Bayelsa State collation centre for the November 11, 2023, governorship election in Yenagoa, the state capital, on Monday afternoon.

The electoral chaos was initiated by party operatives who claimed to be members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Accord, ahead of Prof. Faruq Kuta, the state returning officer, election officials, security guards, and observers.

The two irate guys raced out of the collation building to continue fighting outside, making it difficult for security personnel to put out the fight.

Kuta then postponed the collation. Results from seven of the eight LGAs have been released thus far, with Timipre Sylva of the APC receiving two local governments and incumbent Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) holding the lead with five wins.

With more than 55,000 votes, the PDP candidate leads the APC contender; nevertheless, the outcome of the most recent LGA, Southern Ijaw, might significantly alter the outcome.

At the Bayelsa Collation Centre, Accord Party and All Progressives Congress agents engaged in combat.
