GOV. ABIODUN MOURNS FORMER ONDO MILAD, OPALEYE
Major General Ekundayo Opaleye (retd.), a former military administrator of Old Ondo State (Ondo and Ekiti), passed away. According to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, this was a significant loss for both Nigeria and the state.
According to reports, Opaleye passed away on Saturday in the Ogun State capital, Abeokuta, from a heart attack.
From August 1986 until August 1987, he served as military governor under General Ibrahim Babangida’s (ret.) administration.
Prior to transferring control to Commodore Bode George, he succeeded the late Admiral Mike Akhigbe.
Opaleye was the Balogun of Erunmu, Owu, and Abeokuta until his passing.
According to Abiodun, the late Opaleye would always be remembered for his commitment to duty as an administrator and his patriotism as a military officer.
“Major General Opaleye’s contribution to our nation, particularly during his tenure as the military governor, will always be remembered. His dedication and service to the people of old Ondo State will forever be cherished. His sudden demise is a great loss to the entire country.
“We stand in solidarity with the bereaved family, offering our support and prayers as they navigate through this painful period. May they find strength and solace in the memories shared with Major General Opaleye. Our thoughts and prayers are with them”, the governor said.
