The Hezbollah movement in Lebanon claimed a series of fresh attacks on Monday, stating that it used missiles, artillery, and drones to target troops in northern Israel.

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, there have been regular gunfights along the Israel-Lebanon border.

The Iran-backed Hezbollah organisation claimed in a statement that its fighters had attacked soldiers “with three attack drones” west of Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel. Shortly after, the group added that it had also fired artillery against the same troops.

According to both claims, the assaults were “direct hits.”

Hezbollah claimed to have launched “Burkan missiles” onto an Israeli barrack earlier on Monday. The group also stated that it had carried out many additional operations against Israeli forces.

Israel’s army said “three UAVs (drones) were identified striking adjacent” to an army post, without specifying where. It added that “no injuries were reported”.

In a statement, it said “25 launches were identified from Lebanon toward several locations adjacent to the border”, and added that aerial defences “intercepted a number of the launches and the rest fell in open areas”.

“Tanks, a fighter jet, and a helicopter struck Hezbollah terror infrastructure in Lebanon” in response to “launches toward Israeli territory”, it said, while the army struck fighters attempting to fire “anti-tank missiles” in south Lebanon.

The Palestinian militant group Hamas, based in Gaza, launched an offensive on southern Israel on October 7, murdering over 1,200 people and kidnapping nearly 240 more, according to Israeli officials. This marked the start of deadly clashes on Israel’s northern border.

Authorities in the territory controlled by Hamas claim that since Israel launched its assault attack on Gaza, more than 13,000 Palestinians have died. Israel has sworn to destroy Hamas.

Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, stated last month that his organisation, which is an ally of Hamas, was employing new weaponry against Israel, such as Burkan missiles, which were capable of carrying “a payload of 300–500 kilogrammes” (660–1,100 pounds).

According to Nasrallah, the group has also flown reconnaissance drones deep into Israel and used assault drones for the first time.

An AFP count indicates that since last month, at least 90 individuals have died in cross-border clashes on the Lebanese side, mostly as Hezbollah fighters but also including at least 10 civilians.

On the Israeli side, officials report that three civilians and six troops have died.
