Mr. Chiedu Ebie, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, has assured that the new leadership is committed to revealing the appropriate vision and establishing the standard for management in order to propel the Niger Delta region’s sustainable development.

Ebie emphasised the necessity for the new board and executive management to take fundamental actions that would guide the deployment of new policies to drive the development process in Nigeria’s oil-rich region during a facility tour of the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Executive Director of Finance and Administration Alabo Boma Iyaye, Executive Director of Projects Sir Victor Antai, and Executive Director of Corporate Services Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde were among the NDDC Board members who accompanied the Chairman on the facility tour.

This was said in a statement that NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs Pius Ughakpoteni gave to reporters on Saturday in Port Harcourt.

Ebie stated that the board’s first task in its new role was to acquaint itself with the Commission’s operations as part of the steps to realign the NDDC.

He stated, “We received status report from the Managing Director, and we looked at the kind of vision to set for the Commission.

“In subsequent meetings, we will get down to work and ensure that we set the right tone for the management to implement our policies.”

Ebie expressed satisfaction with the quality of facilities at the Commission’s headquarters, noting that the “office complex is a massive and elaborate property.”

He observed, however, that “there is still a lot of work that needs to be done, especially in the ancillary building.”

He promised that every effort would be taken to guarantee that the contractors finished the remaining work in the offices as soon as possible and that it was crucial to make sure that a favourable working environment was established for the employees.

NDDC Director of Human Resources and Administration, Mr. Patrick Ekade, briefed the Chairman during the facilities tour, explaining that the Commission was currently acquiring fire trucks to strengthen its fire service section.

When fully outfitted, he said, the unit would be able to respond to distress calls from the host community of the Commission as well as from outside the building, in addition to serving the NDDC building.

Ekade, the security department head, emphasised that in order to handle safety concerns in a timely manner, the building complex must have sufficient security.

He said, “For a massive building of this nature, we need to have sufficient security architecture to take care of the staff and visitors.”

According to the statement, the board members also looked over the infrastructure for the building’s electrical supply, the water treatment facility, and the 100,000-capacity tank that supplies the office complex.

They went to a number of offices, including the staff canteen, banking hall, and medical centre, located in the four-story ancillary structure and the 13-story main building.

The headquarters facility was started by the now-defunct Oil Minerals Producing Areas Development Commission and opened on March 11, 2021.
