GIFT ORBAN’S STRIKE NOMINATED FOR UEFA CONFERENCE LEAGUE GOTW
Super Eagles striker Gift Orban is one of the nominees for the UEFA Conference League Goal of The Week following his superb strike for Gent in their 4-1 thumping of Zorya on Thursday.
Orban returned to the scoresheet for Gent when they welcomed Zorya to the KAA Gent Stadium for their penultimate Europa League group game on Thursday.
The Buffaloes were the overwhelming favourites to take all three points, and they proved their ability. Malick Fofana and Arseniy Batagov gave Gent a two-goal cushion after 49 minutes. Then, Orban made it three in the 55th minute, and it was a goal for the cameras.
Orban connected well to a cross from Noah Fadiga as he controlled the ball with his right foot. And without looking at the goalposts, he struck a venomous shot that went straight to the right of the goal to make it 3-1.
Omri Gandelman wrapped up the scoring for Gent in the 75th minute before Denys Nagnoynyi scored a consolation for the visitors.
Following the game, Orban’s goal has been nominated for the Goal of The Week. He will face competition from Alessandro Pesic, Angus Macdonald, and Casper Nielsen.
