OSIMHEN HELPLESS AS NAPOLI LOST TO INTER MILAN
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen played all 90 minutes for Napoli as they fell to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat against Inter Milan at the Diego Maradona Stadium.
Osimhen returned to Napoli’s starting eleven on Sunday when they welcomed high-flying Inter Milan to Naples for their Serie A fixture. It was his first start in over two months, and he was looking to get back among the goals.
The game was evenly matched, with chances falling to both sides in the opening embers, but it was Inter Milan who opened the scoring via Hakan Calhanoglu in the 44th minute.
Napoli resumed the second half with increased intensity, and in the 57th, Napoli thought they had won a penalty after an obvious foul on Osimhen in the box. However, the referee waved it on, much to the chagrin of Napoli players and fans.
Three minutes later, Inter Milan doubled their lead through Nicolo Barella, who finished with aplomb after he was set up by Lautaro Martinez.
In the 69th minute, Osimhen had a chance to score, but he just powered his header wide and failed to alter the scoreline.
Napoli pushed many men forward in a bid to get a goal back, and they were punished in the 85th minute as Marcus Thuram scored Inter Milan’s third and sealed the win for the Nerazzurri.
Osimehn had a decent game with just three goal attempts and 33 touches. Inter Milan cut off his supplies and tried to isolate him upfront. Their plan eventually worked as the Super Eagles star was kept at bay.
