OKOCHA TIPS OSIMHEN TO WIN CAF PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Former Super Eagles captain Austine Okocha believes Victor Osimhen is the most deserving of the 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year Award.
Osimhen is among the 10 players shortlisted for the award.
Mohamed Salah, Riyad Mahrez, Achraf Hakimi and Sadio Mane are among the other top nominees for the individual accolade.
Osimhen stated that his compatriot was the most consistent player last season and should win the award.
“He [Osimhen] deserves it because for me, he was the most consistent player of last season. He deserves it,” Okocha said during a Bundesliga media round table.
The 24-year-old led Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years last season, scoring 26 goals.
The striker is looking to become the first Nigerian to win the award since Kanu Nwankwo was named the best player on the continent in 1999.
The winner will be revealed at the CAF Awards Gala on Monday, 11 December 2023, at the Palais des Congrès, Movenpick, Marrakech, Morocco.
