In order to decrease the number of out-of-school children and early marriages and to ensure a bright future for themselves, Nigerian girls have been urged to improve their own skills through skill acquisition by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs.) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye.

At the ‘Talk on Importance of Personal Care and Stress Management Among School Girls’, which was arranged in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the Malaysian High Commission in Nigeria on Thursday, the Minister made the call.

She said that by learning new skills, young girls will have the ability to be productive and enterprising, enabling them to be independent and build better families while also fulfilling their share of the country’s growth and development.

Kennedy-Ohanenye clarified that this influenced the Ministry’s unwavering dedication to providing hybrid seedlings and pellets for enhanced grain and animal production, fish grilling, sewing machines, and other tools to empower Nigerian women and enable them to support their families and guarantee that their daughters receive the proper training.

The Minister urged Development Partners to incorporate skills development initiatives for young children into their national plans in order to enable them to instill a culture of independence, entrepreneurship, and employability at a young age.

Kennedy-Ohanenye encouraged Nigerian girls to avoid any negative tendencies that could hinder their potential to grow into future capable mothers and employers of labour, even as she praised the Malysian Embassy for hosting the Sensitization Talk.

The Malaysian High Commission’s Charge d’affaires, Ms. Sharmini Devi Gopal, had earlier praised the Ministry for its dedication to the development of the nation’s youth, particularly its female population.

Highlights of the programme include the Science and Technology College Garki, Abuja students’ presentation of innovative projects, the distribution of sanitary pads to representatives of several secondary schools in Abuja, and the positive messages from female stakeholders from various backgrounds.
