POLICE VOWS TO APPREHEND EKITI BANK ROBBERY PERPETRATORS
The Commissioner of Ekiti State Police, Ogundare Dare, has promised to capture the individuals responsible for Wednesday’s broad daylight bank robbery in Ikere – Ekiti.
Dare gave his “displeasure over the ugly incident” in a press release issued late on Wednesday through the command X account. He also ordered a thorough investigation to “ensure the perpetrators are trailed, arrested, and brought to book.”
It was reported on Wednesday evening that three people were feared to have been killed in armed robbery attacks on two new-generation banks in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The armed robbers, according to sources, struck at approximately 4.30 p.m, blowing up the bank doors with dynamite and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.
Two more people were slain by the robbers somewhere else in the town, according to a source who claimed to have seen a dead body covered in blood near the gate of one of the banks.
The source said, āI can confirm the killing of a man at one of the banks. He was shot in the head. The lifeless body was there until police arrived the scene and people dispersed. I heard that two others were shot dead at another place.ā
That being said, the police statement from late Wednesday night stated that “the Commissioner calls for calm and implores everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law.”
The statement added, āWhile commiserating with the family members of those who were fatally affected and wishing those currently receiving treatment in the hospital a quick recovery, the commissioner calls for calm and implores everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law.
āMeanwhile, the commandās tactical squads as well as the military who were deployed to the scene immediately information was received, engaged the hoodlums who abandoned the three vehicles and two motorcycles they used for the operation and escaped into the bush.
āThe vehicles and motorcycles were recovered to the station.
