JUST IN: PRES. TINUBU, FUBARA, ODILI IN CLOSED-DOOR MEETING

Read Time:1 Minute, 11 Second

At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Rivers State stakeholders are having a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

The Rivers State delegation was led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Among the parties involved are some of the state’s traditional leaders as well as Peter Odili, a former governor of the oil-rich state.

Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is reportedly scheduled to attend the conference as well.

The political crisis that has shaken the state over the past few days may not be unrelated to the meeting.

The meeting is also attended by Femi Gbajabiamila, the president’s chief of staff, and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

For the past three months, Rivers State has been transformed into a ridiculous theatre, with the state House of Assembly acting as the “boxing ring.” Due to the disagreement between Wike and Fubara, 27 members of the House defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is in power and whose central government Wike currently holds a ministerial position in.

Parallel sessions, a plot to remove the governor from office, the demolition of the Assembly building, and a wave of pro-Wike resignations from Fubara’s cabinet were all results of the rivalry.

The President and some elder statesmen had intervened in the crisis earlier in October but it degenerated into a full-blown fight.
