SHOOTING STARS CHAIRMAN PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE PHILLIP BOAMAH

The management of the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, has described the demise of a former player and coach of the team, Philip Boamah as a big loss to the football fraternity.

Reacting to the death of the ex international, who passed on early Thursday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, the Executive Chairman of 3SC, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan Akoro, said the football family has suffered a monumental loss.

“The news of the departure of one of the legends of our great club, Philip Boamah, to the world beyond, saddens our heart.

“The late Boamah, spent most of his football career as a player and a coach, serving the great Oluyole Warriors, and was a dedicated and committed player during his playing time and a very hardworking gaffer during the periods he handled the team.

“No doubt, we will surely miss this great man, who would be remembered for the role he played in the IICC Shooting Stars squad which won the 1976 African Cup Winners Cup for the country.

“On behalf of the entire Shooting Stars family, I condole with his family and I pray that the Almighty God will grant his soul peaceful rest and give those he left behind the fortitude to bear this great loss”, said the 3SC boss.

Besides his exploits for Shooting Stars, which he played for and coached twice, the late Philip Boamah, who died at the age of 74, also had coaching stints with notable clubs in Nigeria, including the defunt Dolphins of Port Harcourt, Julius Berger of Lagos, Ranchers Bees of Kaduna, Leventis United of Ibadan, Kwara Stars and Kwara United of Ilorin and Gateway FC of Abeokuta

The Ghanaian-born Philip Boamah, was part of the Nigerian national team, then known as the Green Eagles in the 1970s.
