ADULTERATED DRINKS: MINISTRY OF TOURISM, SAFETY COMMISSION TO COLLABORATE WITH NAFDAC
Agency Report
The Director-General of the Lagos Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, have denounced the sale and distribution of tampered drinks at bars, lounges, and nightclubs around the city of Lagos.
Following a recent meeting in Alausa, they released a joint statement denouncing the rise in the selling of tainted drinks in nightclubs, which has put the public’s health at unprecedented risk. They urged everyone to embrace their fellow citizens and cherish and value every life, calling the behavior repugnant, reckless, and wicked.
The sale of tainted beverages is strictly prohibited by the government, according to Mojola, who also noted that the illicit activity has grown widespread and that the heinous conduct poses a serious risk to the security and welfare of fun seekers.
He said that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC) will work with the Commission, the Ministry of Tourism, and other pertinent agencies to protect Lagos from the illicit selling of tainted beverages to the general public.
In order to stop the threat and punish negligent nightclubs, the State Government would shortly start making sporadic, unplanned inspections to nightclubs, he added.
