CORPS MEMBER DIED IN CAR CRASH, NOT BANDITS ATTACK – NYSC
The National Youth Service Corps Management has refuted claims made on blogs and social media that Mamudo Obaje, a corps member, was murdered by bandits while traveling from Kaduna to Katsina for his monthly biometric clearance.
In a statement released on Tuesday, NYSC’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, clarified that Obaje passed away in a car accident at Gayaza in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State on January 4, 2024, while traveling from Kaduna to Katsina, describing the report circulating on social media as “untrue, but a figment of the baseless imagination of the mischievous writer.”
The statement read, “The attention of the management of the National Youth Service Corps has been drawn to a story trending in the social media space that a corps member was killed by bandits on his way from Kaduna to Katsina for the monthly biometric clearance. From all indications, the story is untrue but a figment of the baseless imagination of the mischievous writer, who wanted to cause unnecessary unrest among members of the public.
“To put the record straight, Corps Member Mamudo Sa’idu Obaje KT/23B/1153, who was serving at Government Girls’ College, Katsina, was in transit from Kaduna to Katsina on Thursday, January 4, 2024, and was involved in a motor accident at Gayaza in Kankia LGA of Katsina State alongside other passengers.”
Megwa claimed that two more occupants of the car perished in the collision and that the NYSC was saddened by the event and has sent its condolences to the deceased’s family.
He urged bloggers to double-check information and always aim for accuracy in order to prevent unwarranted fear among the public.
In related news, the NYSC has expressed its condolences to the family of the late Mr. Suleiman Ibrahim, who passed away on January 5, 2024.
Ibrahim was the immediate past coordinator of the NYSC in Edo State.
Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, the Director General of the NYSC, paid a condolence visit to Ibrahim’s residence in Abuja on Monday. He referred to Ibrahim’s passing as “a great loss to the NYSC” and prayed for the family’s strength to bear the loss.
“Accept our heartfelt condolences on behalf of NYSC staff and Corps members nationwide. What a heavy loss. A perfect gentleman, may your gentle soul rest in perfect peace. We, the NYSC family, will miss you, the DG stated.
Speaking on the deceased’s elder brother’s behalf, Mr. Hamidu Ali thanked the NYSC administration for the visit.
