ALLEGED RAPE: COURT SETS JAN. 26 FOR JUDGEMENT IN CASE OF BISHOP FEYI DANIEL

The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja has set a January 26 deadline for its ruling in the case of Bishop Oluwafeyiropo Daniel, a clergyman who is charged with sexually assaulting two of his congregants.
Following the adoption of the final written addresses by the defendant’s attorney, Fola Awonusi, and the prosecution, headed by Babajide Boye, Justice Rahman Oshodi set the date for judgement.
The Lagos State Government arraigned Daniel before the court on two counts of rape in violation of Section 260(2) of the Lagos State, 2015 Criminal Laws.
The defendant, the founder of “I Reign Christian Ministry,” was charged by the state with committing the charges at Ikota Villa Estate in Lekki, Lagos, sometime in June 2020.
But he entered a not-guilty plea to the accusation.
In his last written statement, defence attorney Awonusi begged the court to release and acquit his client due to evidence that the state had produced demonstrating the purported survivors’ financial gain and malice.
In addition, the attorney claimed that the testimony provided by the prosecution’s witnesses included inconsistencies.
He pleaded with the judge to exclude the prosecution witness’s testimony and clear the accused.
However, the prosecutor urged the court to find Daniel guilty based on the substantial evidence that was presented to it.
He maintained that there was proof of a struggle and said that the accused had pushed himself against the supposed survivors.
He claimed that the discrepancies raised by the defence were unimportant.
We implore the court to find the defendant guilty of the four counts in accordance with our case. We now have evidence of both attempted and actual sexual assault. Boye stated, “We implore the court to find the defendant guilty in light of this.”
