MOTHER OF NEWBORN LAUDS EPE MCC FOR SAVING HER UNDERWEIGHT BABY
Mrs. Aminat Hamzat, a mother of a child who was born with a low birth weight, has expressed her gratitude to the Lagos State Government for offering top-notch medical care at the Maternal and Child Centre (MCC), Epe.
Meanwhile, the medical staff and the hospital administration as a whole received praise from Hamzat, a native of Cotonou, Benin Republic, for their steadfast assistance both during and after her delivery. The patient unexpectedly went into labor well in advance of her scheduled delivery date after traveling to Epe to see her mother.
Mrs. Hamzat was taken to Epe MCC nonetheless, and after giving birth to twins at 30 weeks and 5 days gestation, she tragically lost one of the kids.
In her words, “After losing one of the babies, the nurses and doctors have been very supportive because they tried their best to ensure the second baby survives. He weighed 1.3kg at birth, then dropped drastically to 0.9kg which was underweight, so they had to admit us to monitor and give him intensive care.
“It has not been an easy task being a mother to a premature baby, but with the help of the nurses as well as the quality equipment procured by the government for the facility, the situation was not as bad as it would have been. Although I couldn’t carry my baby at birth because he was too small, I’m very happy I have one alive,” the mother of the newborn added.
Mrs. Aminat Hamzat, therefore, advised expectant mothers to register at any MCC close to them to benefit from what the Lagos State government has provided in all the maternity and child centers across the state.
