Read Time:1 Minute, 58 Second

The burial plans for Sylvester Oromoni Jr., a 12-year-old student at Dowen College in Lekki, Lagos State, have been made public by his family.

This is coming after two years of his tragic death.

On November 30, 2021, Sylvester passed away suddenly from what appeared to be torture at the hands of senior school students who wanted to recruit him into a cult.

The family revealed the news of their son’s funeral in a statement that was made public on Monday, January 22.

The statement also revealed that the final burial will be held on Saturday, 27th of January in Delta State, while adding that even with all the media attention that the matter got, there have not been any justice on the matter yet but still remains committed to getting the desired justice for the deceased.

The statement however, described the Sylvester as a very intelligent and matured boy, who apparently had passion for computer science, programming electrical science and football.

The statement reads, “As a family grappling with the profound sorrow brought about by this inexplicable loss we have chosen to bid farewell to Sylvester on Saturday, January 27, 2024 with final rites to be conducted at Ogbe-Ijaw Warri Kingdom, Delta state.”

“As the father of the deceased, I cannot be tired or discouraged from pursuing justice as I have promised my son to get him justice even if it will take thirty years to achieve it.

“Thursday, November 30, 2023, makes it two years since the demise of my son and the body is still in the morgue, yet to be buried. May the soul of Sylvester Oromoni (Jnr.) and all departed souls rest in perfect peace. Amen.”

Sylvester’s father and the family have stated that they would feel obliged to stop taking part in the investigation and look into taking their case to court in order to seek justice if it wasn’t finished by the end of 2022.

There has been little progress in the two years since Sylvester’s death, which has prompted national criticism and demonstrations from women and civil society organizations.

The claimed strategies used by some Lagos State Government officials are to blame for the delay in justice.

No matter how long it takes, Sylvester’s family is committed to seeing their late son’s case through to a just conclusion, despite the controversies.
