ROAD CRASHES REDUCED BY 45% IN 2023 – ZAMFARA FRSC
The Federal Roads Safety Corps, FRSC, in Zamfara State has revealed that it has recorded a 45 per cent reduction in road crashes in 2023, saying death increased by 15 per cent.
The Sector Commander, CC. Iro Danladi, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Gusau, the State capital.
According to him, the command experienced a huge reduction for the first time in history.
He said deaths increased by 15 per cent due to some crashes involving trucks conveying livestock to other parts of the country.
Danladi explained that what caused a higher rate of fatalities in such crashes was the number of people who joined the vehicles alongside goods for cheap transport fare and in the event of an accident, many of them died.
The State FRSC boss further stated that the major concern of the corps was how to raise awareness among individuals who joined such trucks for their transportation.
“We will continue to partner with the communities and religious leaders toward enlightening the public on the needs for safety on our roads. And for drivers the command worried over the rate of overloading, speeding and road violations.
”The critical offences are responsible for major auto crashes in 2023, we look forward to addressing the challenges in the current year,” he said.
He commended the road reconstruction project of the Zamfara State Government, saying it would further reduce carnage on the roads, and called on motorists to be more careful while driving.
