SOLUDO RECONCILES WITH OBI OF ONITSHA, REINSTATES SUSPENDED MONARCHS
The governor of Anambra, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has pardoned three traditional leaders in the state for giving some individuals—including Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represents the Anambra South Senatorial District—unauthorized chieftaincy titles.
Recall that Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, recently accused the governor of failing to show the appropriate respect for the state’s traditional rulers in an open letter to the state government.
Achebe also denounced the state government’s decision to suspend Igwe Damian Ezeani of Neni.
However, the governor’s press secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, announced in a statement on Wednesday that the governor had pardoned two other people for their transgressions and reinstated the Neni monarch.
In a meeting that was attended by no fewer than ninety-four monarchs, Aburime claims that the governor pardoned the transgressions of the traditional rulers.
The meeting was held on Tuesday at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
Aburime claimed that although Igwe Damian Ezeani, the traditional king of Neni, was reinstated, Ojoto and Aguluezechukwu were pardoned for their transgressions after they offered an apology.
According to Aburime, the governor addressed some of the state monarchs’ welfare.
Aburime said, ”The Governor also magnanimously addressed some of their welfare issues. The Governor announced that with the apologies of the affected traditional rulers, the state government accepts their apologies, subsequently reinstates the traditional ruler of Neni, and forgives the Traditional Rulers of Ojoto and Aguluezechukwu.
“Mr. Governor further clarified the legal status of the Igwe Nawfia as advised by his legal team.
“As part of the vote of thanks, both the Obi of Onitsha and Igwe Ojoto passed the vote of thanks and requested for regular meetings with Mr. Governor, which Mr. Governor graciously accepted to hold at least twice a year.
“The meeting ended on a high note with the traditional leaders having photo sessions with Mr. Governor.”
