LASG ISSUES 24-HOUR QUIT NOTICE TO TRUCKERS AT IJORA UNDER BRIDGE
The Lagos State Government stated that the people selling petroleum products beneath the Ijora Bridge constituted serious risks to the local infrastructure and human population, and as such, they were given a 24-hour notice to cease operations. They were also warned to vacate their trucks and containers or face confiscation.
In addition, the state government gave various squatters beneath the Ijora Causeway bridge and the Lagos Blue Rail Line flyover bridge in Ijora a five-day notice to vacate their shanties or face demolition and removal for posing a threat to the Lagos Blue Line corridor.
When he led a high-level team that included the Chairman of the Special Intervention Squad on the Restoration of the Lagos Badagry Rail Corridor Clean-Up, ACP Bayo Sulaiman, and Special Adviser on the Environment, Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, on an inspection of the Ijora and the under bridge, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab gave notice of his resignation.
Wahab bemoaned the security risk that minibuses, gasoline vendors, block moulders, and other miscreants brought to the safe operation of the blue rail line service, and he stated that the government would not permit this to continue.
The Commissioner said that the state government will support and fully possess the area beneath the Ijora Causeway Bridge for the State Task Force on Special Offences.
The commissioner declared that until the three-week moratorium given to distributors and retailers of Styrofoam products expires, no enforcement action may be taken against them.
The Environment team was also at the Park View Estate in Ikoyi, where construction across and fencing off of a secondary collector has resulted in an infringement from upstream.
He gave the Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department instructions to properly notify every property owner, requesting that they grant the state complete access so that it can monitor its secondary collectors and remove any obstacles that may exist.
Wahab added that the ministry has resumed where it left off last year since environmental law enforcement and monitoring will become routine tasks.
