AFCON: SUPER EAGLES, COTE D’IVOIRE TITLE CONTENDERS — OLISEH
Former Nigeria international Sunday Oliseh has tipped Côte d’Ivoire and Super Eagles as title contenders at this year’s AFCON.
Oliseh stated this after struggling Côte d’Ivoire defeated champions Senegal 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
The Ivorians went into the game against Senegal on the back of a poor group stage performance where they lost 4-0 to Equatorial Guinea.
The Elephants managed to progress into the round of 16 thanks to Morocco’s win against Zambia in their final group game.
Reacting to the win against Senegal, Oliseh wrote on his X:”Change of Coach to a Local one 4 days ago & Cote D’ivoire are in my eyes, now, potential title contenders with Naija!
“5 days ago, they were begging Morocco to beat Zambia to help them qualify, Tonight (Monday) they eliminate Title Fav’s, Senegal. Football is A fantastic, Crazy Rollercoaster.”
The Ivorians will be back in action on Saturday against a year to be identified opponent in the quarter-finals.
For the Eagles they will take on Angola on Friday, 2 January inside the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan.
