AFCON: SUPER EAGLES GOALKEEPER STANLEY NWABALI UNCERTAIN FOR ANGOLA CLASH – SOURCES
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali could be unavailable for Friday’s quarter-final encounter with Angola, according to sources.
The Chippa United shot-stopper was subbed off in the 80th minute for Francis Uzoho after a collision with Georges-Kevin N’Koudou in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and was missing in Super Eagles training on Tuesday.
While there’s still time for him to join team training, Wednesday’s test will determine whether or not he is available for the crucial encounter.
“We will assess the state of Nwabali’s injury in the next 24 to 48 hours. It’s difficult to assess his condition, at the moment ,” Peseiro said in a post-match conference.
“But I am hoping that he will be fit for the next match.I want him to play. And the players want him to play.
“We have 25 players here, there are other players who can do the job. If he can’t play we have a good replacement.”
Super Eagles’ goalkeeping situation had been a major concern going into the competition as Francis Uzoho, initial first choice, had received criticism for a string of poor performances and errors.
Nwabali has caught the eye since stepping into the starting lineup at the beginning of the tournament, conceding just once in four games.
He would be replaced by out-of-favour goalkeeper, Uzoho should he be ruled out of the Friday night clash.
