
MINING, DREDGING: SANWO-OLU’S AIDE VISITS ERA, AGBARA, OTO AWORI
In continuation of the inspection tour embarked upon by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources through the Office of Mineral Resources in the last month, the Special Adviser, Engr. Abiola Olowu has led the enforcement team on a visit to Era, Agbara and Oto-Awori in Badagry Axis to diligently identify mining and dredging, revenues and toll points,
The visit, which covered 15 Mining/Dredging sites, was primarily focused on understanding and assessing the distinct modes of operation employed by the Dredgers and Miners at each location, aiming to gain comprehensive insights into the processes involved while ensuring compliance with the mining and dredging laws of the State.
According to Olowu, the approach involved engaging with stakeholders in fostering open conversations to gather firsthand insights into the challenges and opportunities within the mining and dredging sector. The team actively documented observations related to environmental impact, safety measures and community engagement.
Throughout the visit, the Special Adviser underscored the importance of sustainable practices and responsible resource extraction in a way that the dredgers, community and state can strike a balance between economic activities and environmental preservation.
The team also took note of potential areas for improvement in order to propose policies that could enhance the overall sustainability of this crucial industry.
Other members of the enforcement team include Mr. Cardozo Emilio, Mrs. and Williams Oluremi among others.
