ZAMFARA RERUN: WE WON’T TOLERATE ELECTORAL MALPRACTICES, NSCDC VOWS
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Zamfara State Command has guaranteed comprehensive support for the State House of Assembly rerun on February 3, which is scheduled to take place in five registered areas across nine polling units in the state.
This was announced by the director of the state’s NSCDC, Sani Mustapha, who also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for holding successful elections in the past and stated that the Corps was fully prepared to work with sister agencies to ensure that the rerun was a complete success.
This was said in a statement made by CDPRO Ikor Oche, the Command Spokesperson.
He stated that the head of the state NSCDC had issued a warning, saying that no violence would be allowed and that the Corps would be ready to offer sufficient security before, during, and after the state’s rerun election in the Shinkafi Local Government Area.
The statement emphasized that the command has already laid out formidable methods targeted at securing the successful conduct of the election, noting that the commandant had promised an appropriate electoral umpire a seamless and hitch-free rerun as expected.
Meanwhile, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. S.B. Ahmad, has praised the security upkeep in the state as well as the Corps’ tenacity in past elections.
He explained that the NSCDC is a stakeholder in the electoral business in the nation and “as such, the Commission deemed it fit to consult with the Corps and other security agencies in order to chart a way forward for the success of the rerun election slated on the 3rd February, 2024”.
