In an attempt to alleviate hunger in the nation amid the rising cost of commodities, the Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, distributed food palliatives and envelopes containing undisclosed amounts of money to widows, elderly people, and less privileged residents.
The initiative, tagged “Operation Feed the Elderly/Widows,” held at Sen. Adebayo Osinowo Hall, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA Secretariat, saw the Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, hand over a branded polythene nylon bag containing rice, garri, and beans to the residents while also giving them an envelope.
The mayoress, while delivering her speech, stated that the food palliatives take place every month, adding that the initiative is not just a program but a testament to their commitment to the well-being of Ikosi-Isheri residents.
“The distribution of food palliatives is not just a program; it’s a testament to our commitment to the well-being of each and every one of you. In times of adversity, our strength lies in unity, and today exemplifies the spirit of togetherness. You would agree with me that this initiative of ours has been a regular event being carried out by this administration before the COVID-19 Era, this is a proof that we are a proactive government and my heart lies with you always.”
“As we share these essential provisions, a combo of rice, garri, and beans, let us remember that the true power of our community lies not just in the material support we provide but in the solidarity and care we show for one another. Let this moment strengthen our bonds and remind us that we are resilient when we stand together.”
Princess Bada, while commending President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stated that the monthly food distribution is not sponsored by her but by the Federal Government.
She further urged Lagosians and Nigerians generally to exercise patience with the current administration, adding that all stakeholders are working round the clock to find a lasting solution to the current hardship facing the nation.
“I urge you to be patient with the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I assure you that he understands the pains we are going through and all stakeholders are working around the clock to find lasting solutions. This tough time won’t last. We shall scale through in earnest.”
The Mayoress further stated, “I want to express my sincere appreciation to the Executive, Legislative, Management members and all those who have tirelessly worked to make this distribution possible. Your selflessness and compassion have made a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
“In closing, let us move forward with hope and determination, knowing that our community is a beacon of support and compassion. Together, we shall overcome any adversity that comes our way,” she added.
Meanwhile, some of the Ikosi-Isheri residents that benefited from the initiative during an interview with reporters stressed the hardship the nation is facing while also commending the Mayoress for her efforts and commitment all the time.
While insisting that the current hardship is a phase that will soon be in the past, she urged each and every individual to extend a helping hand to one another by reaching out and assisting where needed.
“I encourage you to reach out to your neighbors, check on one another, and extend a helping hand where possible. Our collective efforts can transform challenges into opportunities for growth and solidarity.”
