LAGOS ISLAND MODEL CITY PLAN: LAGOS GOVT OPENS ANOTHER PARTICIPATION WINDOW WITH STAKEHOLDERS MEETING
The Lagos State Government, through a scheduled stakeholders meeting, has presented another opportunity for people’s participation in the ongoing preparation of the Lagos Island Model City Plan.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide said in Alausa on Wednesday that the State Government had scheduled Thursday, 7th March,2024, for the final stakeholders’ engagement on the planning document at the Agip Recital Hall of the MUSON CENTRE, Onikan, Lagos.
The Commissioner said that the proposed stakeholders meeting, which would be the final stage in the series of stakeholders’ input into the evolving document, was aimed at developing an inclusive Lagos Island Model City Plan that would address the aspirations of all Lagosians.
He added that since the inauguration of the technical committee in August 2021, the preparation of the Plan had witnessed a bottom-up approach, including the initial engagement with benefitting communities and the public display of the final draft of the plan at four different centres across the Plan area.
“In view of the importance of this process to the enactment of an enduring Model City Plan that will be owned by the people, I enjoin Lagosians to participate robustly at the Stakeholders meeting, billed to commence at 10am on the day ” , he said.
Olumide further explained that the goal of the Lagos Island Model City Plan was to harness the special characterstics of the area for the sustainable future growth and socio-economic development of Lagos as the preferred investment destination in sub-Saharan Africa.
