ABIA STATE GOVERNOR BANS BEAUTY CONTESTS OVER SEXUAL EXPLOITATION
All beauty pageantry has been outlawed in Abia State due to persistent allegations of participant extortion and sexual exploitation.
During a news conference in Umuahia, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Entertainment and Tourism, Okey Justice Martins, announced the ban.
Martins said that before being permitted to host such performances, event organisers must be approved and vetted by the Abia State government to verify the accuracy of their statements and guarantee they follow regulations.
“Some individuals are taking advantage of Abia girls in the name of pageantry, make unfulfilled promises as well as pimp them out to wealthy men in the state, thereby jeopardizing their careers while seeking to wear a crown,” Martins claimed.
