LAGOS FIRST LADY EMPOWERS 350 RESIDENTS WITH BUSINESS, WORK TOOLS

… Restates Commitment to Well-being, Prosperity of Citizens

As part of efforts to support residents with business and work tools for self-reliance and independence, Lagos State First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, presented Hairdressing Kits, Popcorn Machines, Shoe Making Packs, Tailoring Machines, Vulcanizing Machines, Gas Cylinders and Industrial Gas Burners, among others, to over 350 residents from all divisions of the State.

Speaking during the presentation of the tools at the Fifth Edition of Community Sensitization and Empowerment held at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Staff Car Park, Dr. Sanwo-Olu said that the empowerment initiative is part of her office’s commitment towards the well-being and prosperity of every individual in the State.
She stated that the initiative stands as a testament to the government’s collective resolve to empower the various communities, uplift the marginalised, and foster a culture of inclusivity and progress in a greater Lagos.
The First Lady further explained that empowerment of the citizens is her priority as it will further contribute to the financial prosperity of the beneficiaries, saying that the present administration believes in investing in its citizenry.
She charged the beneficiaries of the empowerment tools to embrace the gesture with determination and commitment and use the tools wisely, with diligence and perseverance.
“Let these items be catalysts for positive change in your lives and our community. Strive for excellence, be resilient in the face of challenges, and always uphold integrity in your endeavours. Your success will not only uplift you but inspire others around you”, the First Lady pleaded.
Speaking further, Dr. Sanwo-Olu listed other strategic areas of support and interventions by the Office include to include: The fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), health care interventions, social welfare programmes for orphanage homes, educational interventions, the fight against drug abuse, boy-child and girl-child initiatives, empowering the youth and women, and caring for the physically and financially disadvantaged.
According to her, the Office of the First Lady recently concluded another edition of its Community Senior Citizens Visitation Initiative in Ikorodu and its environs where gifts and cash were presented to some senior citizens identified through the database of the State Government.
She, however, appealed to individuals and private organisations to support the efforts of the state government during this critical period by providing empowerment support to deserving individuals.
Earlier, in her remarks, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem specially commended the First Lady of Lagos for the laudable programme.
She said the gesture reflects Dr. Sanwo-Olu’s kind-heartedness and confirms her determination to empower the people, especially women, to be economically productive, stressing that the initiative catalyzes change and is a beacon of hope for those striving to break the chains of poverty and inequality.
The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe charged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the various investments by the government to add significant value to their various communities.
The event also had the presence of the Wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat; the Representative of the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Lawal Olanrewaju; the Representative of the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Chief of Staff, Mr. Akinrinade Morakinyo and the Representative of the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Mrs Sherifat Balogun.
