KANO COURT GRANTS CONTROVERSIAL TIKTOKER, MURJA KUNYA N.5 MILLION BAIL

Read Time:1 Minute, 11 Second

On Monday, a Kano State High Court led by Justice Nasiru Saminu granted N500,000 in bail to the controversial TikToker, Murja Kunya, along with two trustworthy sureties, one of whom is a person with landed property in Kano Municipality and the other is a relative.

Murja, a Tik Toker, filed for bail after the Kano Shari’ah Court ordered a mental health assessment from a psychiatrist.

Justice Saminu stressed the necessity of Murja’s release in his ruling on Monday, pointing out that she had been detained since February 20 and the court would be taking the Easter break during that time.

In addition, the court register mandated that the property of the sureties be verified.

In addition, Murja was prohibited by the judge from utilizing her social media accounts while the case was pending.

“Any violation of the restriction would compel the Kano Commissioner of Police to arrest and bring back  the Tik Toker to the court,” the judge ordered.

The judge also ordered that “the defendants’ counsel, the Attorney General, representatives from the Hisbah Board, and the Commissioner of Police must be in attendance to address amendments to the Kano State Hisbah Board Amended Law for proper adjudication.”

For additional procedures, the case has been postponed until May 16, 2024.
Recall, though, that this happened after Murja was taken into custody by the Hisbah Board because of allegations of immorality in her behavior and tweets.
