
LAGOS BOXERS SHINE AT ALL AFRICAN GAMES
Lagos State boxers have shown their prowess in the art of boxing at the 13th edition of the All African Games in Accra, Ghana by clearing the medals table in the category.
Ojo Joy Nene turned the poster girl as she recorded the first Gold medal for Team Nigeria in the boxing event after her win over Algeria’s Selmouni Chachira in women’s 57kg.
Omole Dolapo, a fast-rising boxer did not rest on his oars as he put up another remarkable show to win a gold medal in the 57kg men’s category. Having bagged a slot in the African Olympics Qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal to fly the country’s colours in the 2024 Paris Olympics Games in France, Dolapo will continue to build on his fine form as he looks forward to representing Nigeria on the global stage.
Another gold medal from Orakwe Blessing in the women’s 70kg took Nigeria to the pinnacle of the boxing event.
Kareem Shukurat won a silver medal in the women’s 54kg category while her counterpart Adeshina Zainab also grabbed a silver medal in the women’s 50kg to add to the tally of team Nigeria of eight gold and two silver medals.
Lagos athletes made their experience count in their different sports and the brilliance and heroics displayed at the multi-sports event at the continental level bear eloquent testimony to the efforts of the Lagos State government at developmental programmes and critical investment in sports infrastructure.
