On Saturday, March 30, 2024, a Nigerian Coach, Akinrodoye Dare Samuel, popularly known as ‘Coach Dreh’, CEO of Ocean 28 Swimming Academy, accepted an incredible challenge to promote mental health awareness.
To achieve this aim, he underwent an 11.8-kilometre swim across the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge, staring from Oworonshoki on the mainland to Adeniji Adenle on the Island.
The expert swimmer finished the race in an impressive 2 hours and 34 minutes, with support from the Lagos Statee Government, friends and colleagues all along the way.
Coach Dreh gave an assurance that he could become anything he wanted to be and do anything, thanks to his ten years as a swimmer.
He continued by saying that, although life can be unpredictable and mental health needs to be taken care of, support is available.
He said, “I am going to be swimming the entire length of the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge to raise awareness and sensitize the public on mental health, suicide, and depression. It is 11.8 kilometres from Mainland, Oworonshoki to Island to Adeniji Adenle. My years of experience in the aquatic realm is over a decade. And with swimming, for me, I can do anything and become anything I want to do with it.”
