JUST IN: FG INCREASES ELECTRICITY TARIFF FROM N68/KWH TO N225
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved an increase in electricity rates for Band A consumers, who normally receive at least 20 hours of daily electricity supply.
Band A customers represent approximately 15% of the total 12 million electricity customers in the country.
During a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, Vice Chairman of NERC, Musliu Oseni, announced that the approved increase will see Band A customers paying N225 per kilowatt-hour, a significant rise from the current rate of N66.
Oseni further disclosed that some customers previously classified under Band A have been downgraded to Band B due to the failure of their electricity distribution company to meet the required hours of electricity supply.

“We currently have 800 feeders that are categorised as Band A, but it will now be reduced to under 500.
“This means that 17 percent now qualify as Band A feeders. These feeders only service 15 percent of total electricity customers connected to the feeders.
“The commission has issued an order which is titled ‘April Supplementary Order’ and the commission allows a 235 kilowatts per hour,” he disclosed.
He went on to say that the review will have no effect on customers who use other bands.
