
EIGHT STUDENTS KILLED AS DUKKU HILL COLLAPSES IN KEBBI
Birnin Kebbi-A portion of Dukku hill weekend collapsed and crushed to death eight (8) Almajiri students at Badariya area in Birnin Kebbi.
According to the head teacher, Malam Dan Umma, who in agony spoke to the press, said that, the incident happened on Saturday morning, not knowing the cause as he was alerted by the cries of people at the back of the house only to see a large portion of the hill had fallen on the almajiris, killing eight of them instantly with while one was rescued from the rubbles was on admission at the hospital receiving treatment.
He said, the hill is just behind the place housing him and the almajiris and the is same place they use as toilets and as well dig it to collect clay to mould clay blocks in preparation to build a small room for themselves a source added.
People of the area thronged the scene of the incident to catch a glimpse of the fallen portion of the hill and to sympathize with the local Islamic cleric.
The Dukku Hill is a vast mountain that stretches to what has now harbour residential buildings due to population expansion and accommodation problem.
The victims have been buried according to islamic rites.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Birnin Kebbi local government, Alhaji Dahiru na Yaya, who confirmed the incident described it as an act of God and prayed for the repose of their souls.
