UPDATE: NBC TO CONSIDER REVIEW OF 2.5% GROSS REVENUE REMITTANCE ON BROADCAST STATIONS
The 2.5% gross revenue remittance that the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) placed on Nigerian broadcast stations is set to be reviewed, according to the commission.
During a meeting with prominent stakeholders of Nigerian broadcasting stations, Charles Ebuebu, the recently appointed Director General of the commission, clarified that the purpose of this action is to address the country’s growing economic issues.
Along with promising stakeholders in attendance that the new administration on board is dedicated to the welfare and interests of all broadcast stations in Nigeria, he also stated that the NBC management will examine the NBC code in its entirety.
The DG continued, calling the January 2024 court decision that prevented NBC from fining and punishing broadcast stations an aberration and expressing disapproval.
He declared that the commission is sticking to its job even if it is appealing the court’s decision.
Among the fundamental principles of his administration, the DG mentioned the creation of comprehensive policies that facilitate the expansion of broadcast stations and the encouragement of discourse and communication.
