Prof. Zaccaeus Adangor, SAN, the Rivers State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, has resigned from the State Executive Council after refusing to be redeployed to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office).

Adangor’s resignation came barely 24 hours after the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, redeployed him in a minor cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday.

Fubara, in a letter of resignation dated 24th April, 2024, and addressed to the Secretary to Rivers State government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, Professor Zacchacus Adangor said he was no longer willing to continue to serve in the administration of Fubara.

“I wish to state for the record that I am no longer willing to serve in Sir Similanayi Fubara administration in any capacity whatsoever. It’s important to mention that the governor of Rivers State had in the past couple of weeks wilfully interfered with the performance of my duties as the Attorney-General of the State and Commissioner for Justice by directing me not to defend, oppose or appear in suits instituted against the Honourable Attorney General and the government of Rivers State by persons admittedly hired and sponsored by the government of Rivers State.”He said having served as a cabinet member of Rivers government in the past five years, he had no option than to resign and save his reputation.

Adangor and Kamalu were among Wike’s loyalists who resigned in the heat of the rift between the Minister and Fubara.

However, following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, they were reabsorbed into Fubara’s government.

Reabsorbing them into his administration was one of the points in the terms of the peace accord which was perceived as a political situation to the crisis.

But few months down the line, the accord collapsed as both camps renewed hostilities.
