Joshua Olayiwola, a teenager, has been placed under detention at the Abolongo Correctional Facility in Oyo Town by a Family Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old neighbor’s daughter.
Olayiwola was accused by the police for defilement.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Magistrate Mrs. S. Adesina ordered the police to send the case file back to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal guidance after rejecting Olayiwola’s appeal for lack of jurisdiction.
She adjourned the matter until June 13 in order to discuss it.
Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Gbemisola Adedeji informed the court that Olayiwola allegedly defiled the juvenile on April 15 in the Ojo Ekun neighborhood of Ibadan between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
According to her, the offence went against Section 34 of the Oyo State Child Rights Law of 2006.
