EUROPA LEAGUE: BONIFACE, TELLA ON HISTORICAL PATH WITH LEVERKUSEN
By Ajape Sefiu A.
Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella, two Nigerian players, are about to make history with Bayer Leverkusen, the recently crowned Bundesliga champions.
On Thursday (today), Leverkusen and AS Roma will play the second leg of their Europa League semifinal match at the BayArena.
Xabi Alonso’s team defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 last Sunday, extending their unbeaten streak to 48 games in all competitions.
Die Werkself’s triumph brought them level with Benfica’s historic European record, which was set between December 1963 and February 1965.
Meanwhile, a win against AS Roma will see them set a new record for the longest unbeaten streak by a European club.
After their triumph in the 1987–88 campaign, Leverkusen is aiming to capture the Europa League title for the second time ever.
