Anambra state authorities have detained a thirty-year-old teacher on suspicion of assaulting a student who is eight years old into a coma.
Landmark School Mgbakwu in the Awka North Local Government Area has been permanently closed by the state government of Anambra.
Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the commissioner of education, revealed this to reporters on Monday in her office.
She had called the owner of the school and the concerned teacher, Faith Nwonye, to give an explanation of what had happened before the two primary students were brutalised.

Speaking soon after the meeting, Chuma-Udeh clarified that the school’s closure was brought about by its illegality as well as the unpleasant incident.
She bemoaned the development and said that the medical doctor had told her that the victim’s odds of survival at the time of admission to the hospital were only 20%.
The Commissioner admonished those who abuse children and run illicit schools in the state, describing them as criminals acting at their own risk.
She said: āWe received this unfortunate incident from an illegal school in Mgbakwu that a child was beaten to a coma over the weekend.
āOn behalf of the State Government, we invited the proprietress of the illegal school as well as the teacher who purportedly beat the child.
āWeāve handed the matter to the police for further investigations, as we await Mr Governorās directives.
āMeanwhile, the school is closed down indefinitely because itās not supposed to exist in the first instance.
āAny parent who is enrolling his/her child in an illegal school is doing so at his/her own peril.
āTo the proprietors of private schools, anyone running an unapproved school in Anambra is a criminal. Itās a criminal offence to run an illegal school in the state.
āWhether the school is legal or not, itās criminal to beat a child. According to the doctor, the chances of survival of the child is 20%.
āAs soon as the police are done, the teacher will face other institutions against child rights. Sheās going to have the full wrath of the law brought upon her over her actions.
āAnambra state abhors violence to children, women, and any other person. Itās not part of this administration and Mr. Governor is against such.ā Chuma-Udeh said
