BANDITS KILL OVER 40 PEOPLE, HOUSES BURNT IN PLATEAU COMMUNITY ATTACK
Over forty people are said to have died after suspected bandits raided Zurak village in the Bashar District of the Wase Local Government Area in Plateau State.
According to information received by our journalist, the bandits also set fire to a number of residences during the Monday night raid.
Residents of the community, who verified the incident in Jos on Tuesday, say that it happened on Monday night at around 7 p.m. while people were going about their regular lives. However, because of the inadequate communication infrastructure in the area, they were unable to report the incident.
A youth leader in the area, Sahpi’i Sambo, who also confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said the bandits arrived at the community riding on two to three motorcycles – with sophisticated weapons and started shooting sporadically at everyone.
He said, “More than 40 people were killed while many others were injured.”
Residents of the village have fled to neighbouring communities to have a cover. As of yesterday, security personnel had not yet arrived at the community. It was a deadly attack”.
Spokesman for the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, is yet to respond to the inquiry by our correspondent, as of the time of filing this report.
“We are in a meeting. I will call you later please”, the PPRO said.
Also, the spokesman for the Military Taskforce in Plateau State, Samson Zhakom, asked for time to get details of what transpired in the Council Area.
Let me get to the Sector Commander in charge of the area. I will get back to you “, he said.
