OYO NURSES, MIDWIVES BEGIN INDEFINITE STRIKE
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Oyo State Chapter, has instructed its members to go on an indefinite strike starting at midnight on Tuesday.
In a letter sent to all of its members in the state on Tuesday, NANNM stated its stance.
The group stated that the Oyo State government’s failure to respond to its eight-point proposal has made the strike action necessary.
They claimed that after its executive met on April 30, they issued a 14-day ultimatum, which lapsed today.
Some of their requests include mass recruitment to tackle underemployment, and the adoption and implementation of 25 per cent CONHESS, among others.
The correspondence, titled, āCommencement Of Indefinite Strike By Nurses And Midwives In Oyo Stateā was co-signed by its state chairman and secretary respectively, Adeyemi Samuel and Aina Emmanuel.
It read, āSequel to the meeting of the State Executive Council of NANNM held on 30th April 2024 which resolved that State Government should implement the following prayers:
āMass recruitment of Nurses and Midwives/Nurse Educator into Hospitals Management Board, Primary Health Care Board, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomosho and Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences Eleyele, Ibadan to address the gross shortage of staff to improve health care delivery in the state;
āCorrection of the wrong notional date on the promotion letter issued to our members;
āFinancial implementation of 2018 to 2022 promotion for Nurses and Midwives working in LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomosho;
āAdoption and Implementation of Enhanced Hazard Allowances for Nurses and Midwives Working in LAUTECH. Teaching Hospital Ogbomosho, Oyo State College of Nursing Eleyele-Ibadan, Oyo State College of Health Technology, Eleyele-Ibadan & Primary Health Care Development Board/ LGA;
āAdoption and Implementation of lateral conversion/career progression for Nurses and Midwives on GL12 and above who have possessed degree certificate in Nursing Sciences (BNSC).
āPayment of withheld January/February 2011 salaries to the nurses that are yet to be paid; and
āPayment of uniform allowance to all Nurses and Midwives in the service of Oyo state in line with public services rule.ā
The body noted that the circular must be shared with all concerned parties to ensure full compliance.
āWith the 14-day ultimatum expiring without a government response, you are directed to begin an indefinite strike from midnight on Tuesday, May 21, 2024,āĀ itĀ concluded.
