KANO EMIRATE TUSSLE: SECURITY AGENTS GUARD BAYERO’S PALACE DESPITE COURT EVICTION ORDER
Aminu Ado Bayero, the ousted emir of Kano, is still living in the emir’s mansion in Nassarawa, which is strongly guarded by the military and police, despite a High Court in Kano State’s decision requesting that he cease presenting himself as the emir of Kano.
When our correspondent visited the little palace on Tuesday, he or she noticed that it was surrounded by armed police officers and troops with grim appearances.
The police were ordered to remove him from the little palace on State Road by the court, which was presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu on Monday.
This legal battle came about as a result of a Federal High Court decision last Thursday that blocked the law creating the state’s five abolished emirates and prevented Muhammadu Sanusi II from being reinstated as the Emir of Kano. The court ruling prohibiting the state government from dissolving the five newly established Emirates in the state was something that the Kano State Police Command had promised to uphold.
But the other traditional leaders of the disbanded emirates were also forbidden from presenting themselves as emirs by Justice Aliyu’s recent court judgement. It was forbidden for Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya, Kabiru Muhammad Inuwa, Nasiru Ado Bayero, and Ibrahim Abubakar II to present themselves as the emirs of Karaye, Rano, Gaya, and Bichi, respectively.
District chiefs were received by the deposed and reinstated emirs of Kano Emirate on Monday in separate palaces, adding to the drama surrounding the ongoing power struggle.
Governor Abdulba Yusuf signed a bill last Friday that dissolved the extra emirates that Abdullahi Ganduje’s previous administration had established and restored Muhammadu Sanusi II to his position.
