POLICE ARREST SOLDIER OVER THEFT IN RIVERS STATE

In the Elimgbu neighbourhood of Port Harcourt, the state capital, the Rivers State Police Command apprehended a group of thirteen people.

According to a statement signed by Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Command, the police were notified of a distress call about suspected burglars attempting to enter a warehouse owned by two private individuals without authorization.

According to the statement, five people in totalā€”who had previously suffered serious injuries at the hands of a mobā€”were first detained before being sent to a hospital for treatment.

The statement further revealed that among the suspects are Corporal West Isaac,Ā  a serving soldier in the Nigerian Army with Force number 08NA/61/2653 and posted to Warri, while another suspect identified as Jabila Kammangar is an officer with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) posted to Kabba in Kogi State.

The police said upon further investigation, it was discovered that the suspects were part of a larger 13-man gang specialised in armed robbery, kidnapping, and theft.

This investigation, the police said, led to the arrest of some other soldiers namely Lance Corporal Abdul Musa (13NA/70/10545), Lance Corporal Mgbe Jeoffrey (16NA/75/6896), and Corporal Innocent Okwoli (12NA/68/6552), all personnel of the Nigerian Army.
