KIDNAPPING: EVANS’ PLEA BARGAIN APPLICATION STALLED AS PROSECUTION SEEKS ADJOURNMENT

The plea bargain application filed by the convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans and his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka could not be heard as Mr. M O Olateju requested for an adjournment.
Evans and his co-defendant had opted for a plea bargain on the charge of conspiracy to kidnap, attempted murder preferred against them by Lagos State.
When the matter was called before Justice Sherifat Sonaike of the Lagos High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square Annex (TBS) on Thursday, Mr. Olateju informed the court that prosection was waiting for response from the plea bargain committee before proceeding with the hearing.
He said, “We shall be asking for a further date for hearing of plea bargain by the first and second defendants.”
A. C Enueshike, the counsel representing the third defendant mentioned that her client was ready to proceed for trial.
“We have heard the submission of the Prosecution and we are ready to proceed for trial,” She said.
Justice Sherifat Sonaike thereafter, adjourned the case till October 17 for trial as well as plea bargain for those that applied.
Evans, alongside Joseph Emeka, Victor Aduba and Okapana Linus are charged with conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping and attempted murder, preferred against them by Lagos State.
The offences committed which are Conspiracy is contrary to section 411 criminal law Cap C 17, Vol 13, of Lagos State 2015, Kidnapping contrary to section 271 (3) and counts three to five, attempted murder contrary to section 230 (A) Cap C17, of the criminal law of Lagos state 2015.
On the second charge Evans was charged alongside Joseph Emeka, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu, and Victor Aduba.
They are being charged with conspiracy to kidnap contrary to section 411, Cap C17, Vol 3 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2015 and kidnapping contrary to section 271 (3), of the criminal law of Lagos state 2015.
He was arrested on June 10, 2015.
