BANKS, PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS COMPLY WITH NLC STRIKE IN OYO
…private sector, PMS members shun strike
In compliance with the directives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), most public institutions, including banks and schools, withdrew their services.
In most of the places visited on Monday, there was complete paralysis of activities.
All academic and non-academic activities were paralyzed in all public institutions.
At the University of Ibadan, all gates were locked. Also, all the faculties and lecture rooms were firmly locked.
All schools, both public and private, within the premises of the institution could not open as well.
The students of the International School, UI and Baptist Academy who went to school returned home.
At the Polytechnic Ibadan, though the Joint Action Committee, which comprises all the academic and non-academic unions, ended their three-day warning strike last Friday, all offices and classrooms were shut down in compliance with the NLC strike.
Also, banks at Mokola, Agbowo, Dugbe, Sango, and Challenge shut their gates against customers who were there to transact business.
At Mokola, commercial banks and public primary and secondary schools shut their gates.
All the schools visited were under lock and key.
At Oba Akinbiyi Model School, Oremeji, Ibadan, the two entrances to the school were locked, while students who were turned back were seen loitering outside the fence of the school. The situation is the same at St. Gabriel School.
All classes are vacant, with two teachers remaining in school to tell students to go back home.
But, the private sector did not observe the strike. Most private businesses opened and rendered services.
Human and vehicular movements remained unhindered as members of the Park Management System (PMS) were busy working.
