NIS SET TO UNVEIL USER FRIENDLY E-VISA CHANNEL
In accordance with the Nigeria Visa Policy 2020, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has announced intentions to launch an easier-to-use electronic visa application channel for brief trips.
The plan was revealed by the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, during an address given at the graduation ceremony of the 12th Command Course of the Immigration Command and Staff College in Sokoto, according to a statement released by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Kenneth Udo, on Monday in Abuja.
In the presence of Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) George Didel, the CG stated that the new route will expedite the visa application process, encourage foreign direct investments (FDIs), and increase travel.
She said: “We must embrace these reforms and implement effective internal control and monitoring mechanisms.
“This is to track the presence and activities of all foreigners in Nigeria”.
The CG reiterated her commitment towards the full implementation of the e-Border Project.
Nandap said this included installing e-gates at international airports in Lagos and Abuja and integrating the Advance Passenger Information System (API).
She said: “As well as Passenger Name Record (PNR) to enhance border control and clearance systems.
“These centres are expected to significantly improve intelligence sharing and operational coordination to enhance National Security.
Nandap advocated for increased attendance at Security Council meetings and stressed the need to revitalise NIS’s divisional offices.
She emphasised that this would be done with the highest professionalism and interagency cooperation at the state and local government levels, in addition to other ad hoc obligations.
Nandap directed formation leaders to put in great effort into making sure that the automation of the passport application processes goes smoothly. The goal was to minimise human interaction, limit shrewd behaviour, and increase productivity.
Up until the complete changeover is completed, she said, improved e-passports will continue to be distributed both locally and at overseas missions.
All NIS formations were urged by the CG to aggressively take part in the national awareness campaign against irregular migration, particularly the smuggling of migrants (SOM).
She did, however, restate NIS’s dedication to enhancing the abilities of all service cadres, emphasising the significance of involving partners and stakeholders in the continuation of training and capacity-building initiatives.
She promised to enhance the welfare of NIS officers by providing health care plans, inexpensive housing, and prompt promotions.
Nandap exhorted the students to uphold the greatest standards of professionalism and to be change agents.
The “Passed Command Course” (PCC) award was the event’s high point, and each participant who managed personnel was given a “Dagger Merit Award (+)” in appreciation of their commitment and diligence.
