CHOLERA OUTBREAK: ONE CONFIRMED DEAD, FIVE HOSPITALISED IN OGUN
The Ogun State Government has verified the cholera epidemic, which has hospitalized five people and resulted in the death of a sixty-two-year-old woman.
Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area, is where the incident occurred, according to Tomi Coker, the Ogun State Commissioner for Health. The event took place four days ago.
The deceased woman, according to a community source, contracted cholera while tending to her diseased child, who is currently being treated at a hospital.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in Ogun State, Kunle Ashimi, acknowledged the pervasiveness of cholera, which has affected 30 states in the nation, including Ogun, in a press release on Thursday.
He expressed condolences for the victims, stating, “As of today, cholera has been reported in 30 states, including Ogun State, with at least 30 deaths nationwide. We pray for the souls of the departed”.

Additionally, Ashimi affirmed that the NMA is on high alert and that a phone number has been made available by the government for reporting new cases.
This comes as Kemi Ogunyemi, the Special Advisor on Health to the Governor of Lagos State, announced that, as of the most recent update, which listed 350 suspected cases and 15 fatalities, the state’s cholera outbreak had resulted in 21 recorded deaths.
