ASUU JOS WARNS OF POTENTIAL STRIKE OVER UNFULFILLED DEMANDS
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch, has called on the Federal Government to urgently attend to its pressing issues to avert another strike action by academic staff in tertiary institutions.
Members of the union gave the warning during a town hall meeting held at the union’s secretariat in Jos, to address lingering issues between the ASUU and the federal government.
The purpose of the gathering was to raise public awareness of the government’s indifferent response to the union’s requests by working with sister unions at the university, the student union government, parents, trade unions, and other relevant parties.
Reexamining anti-masses measures, withdrawing the union from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), going back to renegotiation, and signing the Nimi brigs report are only a few of the requests made by the union.
The other ones include paying the 35 months’ worth of salaries and accrued earned allowances that were included in the 2023 budget, releasing funds that were improperly seized during the budgetary process, restoring the governing council that was unlawfully dissolved, paying the arrears on promotion and responsibility allowances, and paying the members’ salaries that IPPIS failed to include in the budget.
