AIYEDATIWA INAUGURATES COMMITTEE TO OVERSEE ONDO ELECTRICITY REGULATORY TRANSITION
A committee to supervise the time of regulatory control transfer from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to the Ondo State Government has been established by Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor of Ondo State.
The action is intended to guarantee the state’s enhanced electrical supply and energy independence.
The committee’s main responsibilities are to create procedures for enhancing the state’s electricity supply, facilitate the seamless transfer of power from federal institutions to the state, and strengthen local governance and energy control for the benefit of Ondo State’s citizens.
In his speech, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the significance of the transition for the advancement of Ondo State during the event, which was hosted at the governor’s mansion in Akure, the state capital.
āThis committee is a vital step towards achieving our goal of a more efficient and locally controlled electricity regulatory market.
āBy taking charge of our regulatory framework, we can better address the unique needs of our state and ensure a more reliable and sustainable power supply for our citizens. Having a substantial part of Ondo State in darkness is simply unacceptable,ā he stated.
It is anticipated that the shift will increase accountability, expedite regulatory procedures, and ultimately improve Ondo State’s distribution and supply of power.
To guarantee a seamless and efficient transition, the committee will collaborate closely with NERC and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), among other stakeholders.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, Engr. Johnson Alabi, will serve as Vice Chairman of the Committee, as will Engineer Tunji Ariyomo, who will serve as Chairman.
Other members of the committee include a former Regional Head of BEDC, Iyabo Adefemi, the Director of Planning of the Ondo State Power Company (OSPC), Ā Engr. Olumayowa Ajumobi, while the State Coordinator of the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB), Engr. Stephen Bolawole will serve as the Secretary.
Engr. Gbenga Akeju will represent the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) as a member of the committee, while the BEDC has been directed to nominate a representative.
